Just after ringing the doorbell of the thirteenth house, Ricky knew this Halloween was going to be the...

...last one he was ever going to see.

The door swung open and a pale hand grabbed him by the wrist and yanked him inside. "Ricky Haylock will you go out with me?"

He stared into the eyes of the rubber Brats doll mask the girl wore; his heart throbbed in his throat as he recognized the voice. He had no idea this was Debra Lynn Norris's house. He had liked her since kindergarden. Now they were both in the fifth grade, and in the same class.

"How...how did you know it was me"? He took off his scream mask and brushed his hair out of his eyes. He felt hot, and he knew his face must be beet red.

"Girls just know these things." She took off her mask and flashed him a wide grin. "Want some candy?"

...one to remember. This was the first time his Mom let him go trick or treating by himself and his dog, Tiger. Instead of a normal ringing sound, there was a loud screech that scared him. He dropped his pillow and candy spilled all over the porch. He knelt down to pick up the candy and saw Tiger, shaking and sitting in a puddle of pee. The front door opened, and it was dark inside. He was waiting to see one of them lighted skulls that he scared his Mom with this morning. Then he heard a noise from above, looked up too late, green slime poured over him and Tiger. Suddenly, he realized that this was his house. His mom then walked up to the door, smiled and said, "Gotcha back!"

...one he was going to remember most. Here he was, on Elm Street, and the name on the mailbox near the front door, was Krueger.

"How cool is this," Ricky said to his friend, "trick or treating at Freddie Krueger's house on Halloween!"

When his friend did not respond, Ricky turned to look over his shoulder. His friend was just standing there, staring at him through the blood spattered goalie mask they had found in the yard of the state mental hospital just days ago.

"Hey man, I said is this cool or what. Come on Jason, answer me."

...year that he makes the biggest candy haul of his life. This house is owned by the Trumpets and they are the wealthest people in town, so Ricky figures that they will likely hand out the most exspensive candy; and a lot of it too.
