...faint smell that had now grown to be this unbearable stench. It was time to unravel the mystery, so I gathered all my strength and headed straight for the dreadful basement. It had been days since someone had entered that dark, dingy room. On descending, the whiff of stale air led me straight to the source. Made visible by the light from my torch my vision fell upon a box. It was full of something. Initially too scared to go close, let alone open the god forsaken thing I cringed. Then reminding me of my so called brave spirit I moved closer. What is it? What if it s still alive and lashes out? With all these thoughts still running through my mind I flung open the box. On seeing what I found inside I wished I had only found it sooner. Maybe then that little kitten who while making his way through the broken window, injured himself and now lay drowned in his own blood could have still been saved. At that moment all I was left with was a wish, a wish for the peace of the amazing creature's soul; reinforcing my faith in the saying, It's always the mighty, who fall the hardest."

...a dead rat crawling with dozens of big, fat, juicy, white maggots."
"Oh, good! Yum! Maggots for supper!" said Pete.
"Too late," said Claire as she wiped her whiskers, licked her paws and flicked her long tail, "I already had them for a snack!"
"Meow, meow; I missed out, meow," lamented Pete.

...a dead body."
"A dead body?" Jess questioned, staring at the newspaper sports section.
"Yeah, a dead body." Claire said again.
"Huh.. that's odd.. I wonder why that's there?" Jess seemed more interested in who torn what muscle in the the Patriots game than the body in their basement.
"Yeah, I know, I thought I threw her body in the river two days ago."
"Oh.. that's what was in the river? I thought it was just a bag of clothes..."
"No, it was a body. I killed after she tried to sell me some insurance."
"Oh.. So, what's for dinner?"
"Meatloaf." Claire went into the kitchen. "Ready in a few.
"Alright... well will you look at that? Brady traded again... Wait? WHAT?! How can she do that? That poor poor thing... killing her... just for our pleasures... I mean, she knows I prefer chicken."

...dead elephant."
"A dead elephant? What was an elephant doing in our cellar?"
"He was tricked by the giraffe who told him there was a pile of peanuts down there in the corner. When he went to look, the jackal tripped him."
"A giraffe and a jackal in the house?"
"Yeah, they were hiding from the tiger who was out for revenge because they put sawdust in his food."
"So there was a tiger in here too?"
"Of course."
"And when did all of this happen?"
"Three nights ago."
"And why didn't I hear it? They would have made a lot of noise."
"The monkey was holding his hands over your ears while you slept."
"Oh...that explains it."
