As the valley opened before him, the jester sighed. Freedom was in sight, but he would miss the...

...way his queen yodeled during sex.

"That woman had some set of pipes," he said kicking his horse into a gallop. "Too bad she ended up at the guillotine."

As the fugitive rode into the outskirts of a small village, he came across a young woman picking wild flowers. The jester pulled off his hat and said, "Good day, sweet lady."

"Good day, sir."

"No need to call me sir for I am a jester, here to bring pleasure to all those far and near." He slid off his horse, grabbed her hand and placed a kiss on her wrist.

Later, during a tumble in the wildflowers, the peasant woman began to whistle. It was then that the jester realized the only difference between royal and peasant women was when you made love to the peasant you didn t have to worry about the guillotine.

...ball. The widowed queen would choose a husband tonight and HE wanted to be the one, even though she had sent her army to kill him and bring back his head.

Racing to the river, he pulled off his hat, shoes and outer clothes and buried them. He dived in the water and rubbed and rubbed until all trace of his face paint had gone.

Wearing just his under-breeches he crept warily up to the road and retraced his steps until he was a half-mile from the castle gates.

After a few horses and carriages passed, he rolled in the clay and lay on the road.

He was rescued, taken to the castle and given the clothes of a nobleman. Though late, he was presented at the ball, using his real name. Did he have a chance to marry the queen and become the king?

...excitement. He had barely escaped when the Knight caught him and dragged him back to the castle.

The Queen watched the Jester being strapped into the catapult. "Remove the Jester uniform," she ordered. "We can save something from this debacle."

"Your Majesty," answered the Chamberlain. "Will it not be unseemly to send a man to his death naked?"

"If you must, tie a tablecloth around his miserable body."

The Queen's will was done and they prepared to release the catapult.

"Any last words?"

"Knock, knock," said the Jester as he was sent flying.

At the highest point in his flight, the ropes came loose and the tablecloth ballooned out above the Jester who grabbed the ropes and the first parachute was born.

As the winds carried him far from the castle the Chamberlain said under his breath, "I fear we have not heard the last from this Jester."

...nights at the palace. Being a jester wouldn`t had been that bad, had the king been more understanding.

But it no longer made a difference. He was free now.

He would go and see the world, meet new people, maybe find the love of his life.

Taking another sight, the jester started walking towards his new and exciting life.

...many stolen nights he enjoyed with the Queen. She was the only woman for him and now he had to leave her never to return to the land that had once been his home.

As he made his way toward the valley, he reminisced about how he and the Queen had become lovers. It had all been so innocent, one night she had confided in him about her marriage to the King and everyone knew the King was a ruthless man who could express not one ounce of compassion. She had looked so lovely sitting in the moonlit courtyard, with her dark hair glistening and ivory completion making her look like a porcelain doll. So fragile, so pure, that the jester couldn t help but fall in love with her.

Just then the jester heard the Queen yell out his name. He turned to look, thinking parting is such sweet sorrow.
