...a coral reef." "There are no reefs showing on the map," said Jenson, the First Mate. "It must have been something submerged. The Captain leaned out over the bridge and peered into the murky water just off the island of Bimini. At that moment a dark figure climbed silently out of the water and onto the deck of the fishing boat 'Lilly Mae'. It was followed by others of it's kind until three of the creatures stood hidden by the thick fog. "We have got to get out of this soup and make it back to port." said the Captain. "We have a charter first thing in the morning." The 'Lilly Mae' never made it back for that charter and in fact was never heard from again. by Jim Ford | ...Whale! Maybe it was Moby Dick!" "But cap'n, you just said you knew better," First Mate said. "Ah, so I did, so I did. However....that bump was a pretty big one; it could have been something like a whale." "Cap'n...." First Mate began pleadingly. "Oh all right, all right." The captain walked off, trying to look unconcerned. But a few minutes later, the Mate saw him leaning over the side of the ship. He whispered disgustedly at the bo'sun, "Every time there is even a slight bump, he thinks we've hit a whale! Why is he so paranoid?" Just then the captain ran toward them yelling, "It was a whale! We hit a whale!" The crew clamored over to the edge of the ship and stared out over the water...and what did they see? A blow up whale pool toy! by Meredith Rigby | ...very large sea creature!" A huge croaking sound blared out. One of the ship's crew rushed in, calling, "Sir, we hit a great big green monster thing. It's dying!" "What do you think it is?" The loud croaking noise blared again. "It looks like a giant frog, Sir," he replied. The Captain said, "That explains why the froghorn is sounding." by Carolyn Ann Aish, New Zealand | ...polar bear. But that can't be true -- we're not in the artic circle. But it was big, and white, with something glowing about the head..." "Don't worry, Boss," the first mate interjected, "It was just a light house." by Jane, Oregon | ...pretty lady in a lovely, gilded, claw-foot bathtub."The crew exchanged glances. "Get that rope over the side and let's have her up," the captain shouted. "Uh, sir, I do believe it's time for your nap," the bosun said gently. "That would be rude, Bosun. A captain should never ignore a guest to his ship." "You're right, sir. We'll greet her and make sure she's comfortable." He turned away and rolled his eyes at the crew. "It's the captain's place to do that, Bosun. Now get the rope and get her up!" The bosun reached for his pistol. Might as well start the mutiny now. The captain was completely off. "Anybody up there?" a definitely feminine voice shouted from the ship's side. "I could really use a hand down here. Me bathtub's filling up quick and I'm tired of bailing." by Phillip Lynne, Knoxville, TN |
