"Okay, everybody," Mrs. Claus announced to the crowd of elves. "Looks like it's up to us to handle things this year as my husband is..." |
...asleep." "Again?," little Dodey exclaimed. "Happens every year," grandelf Bernard sighed. "A bite of Thanksgiving turkey and - smack! - he's out until New Year's." Mrs. Claus scanned the list. "We need someone in Mission Viejo Mall, Brighton Shopping Center,..." (Three hours later.) "... Macy's in New York..." "Can I wear the Santa costume too this year?," Dodey asked. "Sorry, sonny, wait until you've got a bigger belly," Bernard replied. "Did a chicken actually CROSS the road?" an elf asked. "No, it was one of the reindeer," she replied. "Why did the reindeer cross the road?" another elf asked. "Somebody called him a chicken," Mrs Claus replied.by Carolyn Ann Aish, New Zealand | ......one of you." There was a shocked silence. After a few puzzling moments, one of the elves raised his hands. "Yes, Merglin." "Umm...Mrs. Claus?....I thought you were married to Santa....How could your husband be one of us?" "I AM married to Santa. Nevertheless, he is one of you." Mrs. Claus's face wore a look of annoyance. "You see, this year Santa began secret work on a contraption that would make him look like anyone he wanted to - just for fun, of course, though that is no excuse - anyway, he finally finished, and decided to try it out, making himself look like on of you elves. However....once he took on the likeness, he forgot that he was Santa, and is now out there thinking he is an elf!"by Meredith Rigby, KY | ...boozing it up again." Suddenly the entrance door to the workshop flung open and in stumbled the red nosed, pot bellied Mr. Clause. "On Commmmet!" he bellowed, then took a swig of his bottle of brandy. "On cupiddd!" He weaved his way through the not suprised elves toward Mrs. Clause. "Here we go again," said one elf. "He always snaps outta it by Christmas Eve,"assured another. "Momma!" Santa threw his arms around Mrs. Clause and gave her a sloppy wet kiss on her cheek. "Come Papa," she said as she led him to the small bed room in back of the work shop. "You rest." Santa fell to the bed and slept until Christmas Eve. After he took off on his fully loaded, polished sleigh Mrs. Clause and the elves were much relieved they had pulled it off yet another year. by Christy Kodilanen, Norfolk, VA | ...taking a vacation in the South of France." "Santa is going on vacation now?" The elder of the elves, Nelson, asked. "Well, Santa is exhausted from having to separate the naughty and nice lists and deciding what present to give which boy or girl so we have discussed him taking a sabbatical," Mrs. Claus explained. "Who will drive the sleigh?" Elsa the youngest elf asked. "I will," Mrs. Claus continued, "I am capable of delivering the presents and Rudolph will show me the way. Also, I will have Nelson accompany me to carry the heavy gifts down the chimney. It will be fine." "Well, I'm going too," Claire the fashion elf stated, "After all, I know what the latest fashion is for girls this year." "So it is decided. Now everyone back to work," Mrs. Claus instructed. That was the year that Mrs. Claus, Claire and Nelson saved Christmas while Santa enjoyed time alone in France. by Ranae Cherry, Dover, PA |
