"After studying the substance taken from the victim's right shoe," the forensic officer said, "we can conclude that he died from..."

...impact."

"Impact? IMPACT? That's what you told me he died from two weeks ago, Officer! Do you mean to tell me that all of this studying and prodding about in everything less than three miles from his corpse has really given us no leads?"

"Actually, that depends. Did your father chew those little vanilla-mint gum balls that tasted like toothpaste, or was he more of a cinnamon type?"

    "He didn't like gum."

"Aha! He didn't like gum, yet there was quite a hunk of ABC stuck to his sole. I'm sorry to say it, but this may have been murder. Vanilla-mint gum balls are flavored so evilly that they may be toxic, and the one that we extracted from his right shoe could have stuck to both the shoe and the roof of his house, initiating his fatal fall."

"So your suspect is -- chewing gum?"

...Trichloroethylene poisoning."

"Would you mind explaining to the court what Trichloroethylene is?" the District Attorney instructed his expert witness.

"It is a colorless liquid that is usually used for cleaning metal." Dr. Trubane went on to testify that, if this toxin is ingested, it can cause several health issues; one being an abnormal heartbeat, which can lead to the person having a fatal heart attack.

"What was the level of Trichloroethylene in Mr. Deligotti s blood?" the District Attorney wanted to know.

    "700ppm," Dr. Trubane stated.

    "What is the average level?"

"About 30ppm. At that level a person would experience headaches and nausea. After a few hours, the toxin is voided through the urine," Dr. Trubane answered.

"Thank you, Dr. Trubane. Your witness, councelor."

"No further questions at this time," the defense for Mrs. Deligotti replied, slumping into his chair feeling less secure about his defense for the very wealthy widow seated next to him.

...a type of acid." He said looking at the detective. "Well, I guess that solves this crime, huh, sir?" The detective said.
