"A few trees go down and you call that a storm?" Ray asked. "Why, I remember once when I was a kid we had a real storm that tore up..."

......every house on my street!"
Mary glared at Ray then brushed her tears away.
"It was hurricane Dora..." Ray scratched his head and pursed his lips. "Nooo...hurricane Deena; or was it Donna? Any way," he put his hands on his hips and leaned into her. "It spawned twenty tornados and ten of them hit my street! Was a miracle nobody died...my family moved to a trailor park in Clifton after that..."
Mary wasn't much moved by Ray's storm stories. "I hope your home owners insurance is paid up," she snipped as she set her gaze upon the huge pine tree that fell from his yard and had crushed the 2006 cherry red corvette her rich daddy had bought her. "You're buying me a brand new toy!"

......our farm." Ray sat back in his favorite rocking chair lighting his pipe.
"You've told me a million times," frowned Jason.
"You don't have any idea how hard I had it at your age," Ray claimed.
Jason's mother came out with a pitcher of freshly brewed iced tea.
"What are you going on about now Ray?" She asked.
"Remember the storm of '55 that nearly left us homeless?" Ray catechized.
"Of course I remember I may be old but I m not senile," Jason's mother reputed.
"I was just telling our privileged son about how hard we had it," Ray exclaimed as he lifted his glass of Southern tea.
"Did you remind him how the insurance paid double for the damage?" Jason s mother purported.
"He left that little detail out," Jason smiled knowing once again his mother had come through for him.
Ray rocked back and forth in silence.

...the entire underground railroad! If you looked out your window, there were seas of blue and gray clashing and thrashing and raining steel drops. And THIS storm lasted over half of a decade!" Ray paused to look at his right leg, rubbing the spot where his flesh met wood near his knee.
More quietly he added, "and I'm not telling a tall one this time, either."
